Mike Mattil
I am a retired pastor. After graduating from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, I was privileged to serve the saints of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Watonga, Oklahoma from 1984-1988. After that I was led to serve the flock at Grace Lutheran Church, Denison, Texas from 1988-2020. I retired from full-time parish ministry so that I could spend more time with my family while serving God in new and different ways. While I have provided pulpit supply on occasion, I thoroughly enjoy being able to attend worship so that I can be fed by God’s Word and Sacraments.
My life, like any other, has had its share of trials and blessings. My greatest blessing here on earth is to have been married to Cheryl since 1979. We are both “PKs” (preacher’s kids) who know we are loved by Jesus and we love serving Him together. Our marriage was blessed with three daughters, who brought three sons-in-law into the family, and we now have seven grandchildren. We had a dream of building a log home in the country into which we could retire. That dream became a reality in 2017. We are living in our dream home on 20 acres outside of Bells, Texas.
Travel is something we have always enjoyed, and we are now getting to do so in our travel trailer. We love exploring this country we call home and hope to do a lot of that in the next few years. We have a trip to Yellowstone planned for 2022!
I am involved with our local Habitat for Humanity and go on disaster response trips as I am able. My leisure time is spent fishing, woodworking (I’m still setting up my shop) and just working on our 20 acres.
The writings I share here are my reflections on God’s Word. I hope they will encourage you to dig deeper.
